The Han Dynasty

The Western Han Empire represented one of the heydays in ancient Chinese history. It founded its capital in Chang’an. As the starting point of the east-west trade route of the Silk Roads, Chang’an became the center of civilizationa prominent international metropolis in ancient East Asia. China emerged as a powerful country for the first time in the world. The archaeological discoveries of royalaristocratic tombs near Chang’an demonstrate the prosperity of the society, the colourful life of the people, the diversity of the art,the upbeat spirit of the people of the Han Empire.

The Wei, Jin,SouthernNorthern Dynasties

China underwent a period of chaos and disunity with constant warfareturbulences from 220AD to 581AD, know in historical documents as the Wei, Jin,SouthernNorthern Dynasties. Minority ethnic groups in northern China contended with each other. The frequent immigration led to the integration of the agrarian culture with the nomadic culture. The Silk Roads continued to thrive during this period. The advance of Buddhism to the east greatly simulated the development of art.
